The heart of Archant Print is the Norwich Print Centre in Thorpe. Opened in 1995, the centre houses state-of-the-art printing technology with the capacity to produce a 32-page tabloid paper, full-colour pages at 70,000 copies per hour, some 20 copies per second. The maximum pagination is 192-page tabloid paper, full-colour pages, running at 35,000 per hour.
The centre produces weekly, monthly and contract publications for a number of clients, including the titles Luton on Sunday, Southwark Times, Leigh Times, Police Life, Hackney Today and Leicester Link .
At the Norwich Print Centre, ISDN lines or FTP servers accept full electronic pages from clients for transfer to page pairing terminals and then to 4-4-high tower units and two Colorliners for printing tabloid or broadsheet newspapers.
The mailroom is able to insert up to four items per publication, these can be a mixture of pre-printed tabloid supplements or leaflets. The stitch and trim department is able to stitch and trim tabloids or produce a quarter-fold publication. For example, each week, the Norwich Print Centre pre-prints and inserts eight supplements, including property and motor supplements, with four of the eight supplements being stitched and trimmed into the three daily newspapers printed at Norwich.
The print centre also offers full prepress and binding services.
